Certified waste companies

As a municipality, you’re looking for a reliable waste partner to work with on recycling your collected packaging material.

Become a recognized waste company

Do you represent a company active in the collection and recycling of packaging? In just 5 steps, you can register your company for certification. Together, we bring transparency to the chain.

To establish a solid basis for cooperation between Verpact and the waste company, a certification scheme is in place, and parties enter into a reporting agreement. A waste company that is certified for specific material types is eligible for compensation and is authorized to collect, process, and recycle packaging waste from Dutch municipalities, businesses, and other waste companies.
The step-by-step process for setting up this collaboration is outlined below and described in detail in the Packaging Protocol for Waste Companies (VPA).

1. Registration
A waste company registers with Verpact by completing a registration form.

2. Reporting Agreement
After registration, Verpact contacts the waste company to discuss further details for the reporting agreement. The waste company and Verpact sign the agreement. The model reporting agreement is included in Appendix 2 of the VPA.

3. Start Reporting and Preparing Process Description
The waste company receives an account in WasteTool and submits one or more reports at Verpact’s request. To support the reported data, the waste company prepares a process description (see section 4.1 in the VPA). This process description must demonstrate how the reported data was obtained. Depending on the company’s role(s), location, and activities, Verpact may request additional monitoring data. Upon Verpact’s request, the waste company must provide the requested data within 4 weeks.

4. Data Verification
Based on the submitted report(s), Verpact conducts an on-site data verification. This verification focuses on the quality of the reports, the process description, and its implementation (see section 5.1 in the VPA). The results and any findings are shared with the waste company. Depending on the findings, Verpact may ask the waste company to improve its registration and reporting processes.

5. Certification
If the data verification (and any follow-up) confirms the data (see section 5.1 in the VPA), Verpact certifies the waste company. The company receives a certificate of recognition, a recognition logo, and is included in the list of certified waste companies. The list shows for which material types the company is certified.
