Collecting and recycling of packaging

By collecting and recycling packaging as effectively as possible, we can conserve valuable raw materials. Currently, 88% of all packaging is recycled (including circular packaging). And there’s still room for improvement.
Verpact maps out how the Netherlands is performing in terms of packaging collection and recycling. Verpact has established agreements with all municipalities and a large number of waste management companies. Through our online registration system, WasteTool, municipalities and waste companies submit monthly reports on the quantities of packaging they collect and recycle (or have recycled), broken down by material type. Each year, Verpact publishes an accountability report through its monitoring report.

Legislation and regulations
Clear laws and agreements apply to the collection and recycling of packaging waste, the related targets, and their monitoring. All parties involved in the chain – from producer to processor – are required to comply with them.
