Collecting, sorting, recycling
In the Netherlands, 88% of all packaging is already recycled (including circular packaging). So, things are going very well. Read more about the recycling results per material type.

1. Collecting
Together with municipalities and waste companies, Verpact is committed to a future-proof recycling chain. This means a chain that aligns with market demand. Each municipality decides independently how they collect waste. Verpact advises municipalities in choosing and optimizing a suitable collection system.

2. Sorting
The better the material stream is sorted, the easier it is to recycle and the higher the yield of raw materials recovered from the recycling process. This applies to all five material streams: wood, metal, plastic, glass, and paper and cardboard. Quality requirements apply to each of these streams.

3. Recycling
The sorted material streams are converted into raw materials through a recycling process. These include plastic pellets, wood chips, glass shards, scrap metal, and paper pulp. These raw materials are sold to companies that use them to manufacture products, such as packaging.
