Development of Recycle Checks
The Recycle Check 2027 is not a one-off publication but the result of an annual, iterative development process for plastic packaging (both rigid and flexible):
- Based on the latest insights from across the value chain. We incorporate input from sorters, recyclers, producers, and retailers, as well as monitoring data and practical research, on an annual basis to keep the Recycle Check up to date.
- Independently verified. Experts, the Board of Independent Experts, and the Verpact board review new insights before any changes are implemented.
- Updated annually. A new version of the Recycle Check for plastic packaging is released every autumn—coinciding with the announcement of rates—ensuring you always work with the most current insights regarding recyclability.
We will not publish new Recycle Checks for other materials - glass, metal, paper/cardboard, and beverage cartons - starting in 2027. We are awaiting clarity from Europe regarding the new assessment framework for recyclability. We are actively contributing the knowledge we have gained over the past few years to European discussions and are assessing whether our other knowledge tools already comply with the new European regulations. Once there is greater clarity from Europe, we will offer support aligned with these new requirements. For the sake of transparency, Recycle Checks from previous years will remain available.
PLEASE NOTE: Recycle Checks are valid only for the year to which they apply and may not reflect the state of technology in other years. Therefore, do not use an older Recycle Check to assess the recyclability of packaging in 2027.

Older Recycle Checks
The application form above provides access to the digital Recycle Check tool, which contains the most recent Recycle Checks for each material. Digital Recycle Checks from previous years are also available. Therefore, if you need an earlier version of the checklist - for instance, for administrative purposes related to fee differentiation - please ensure you select the correct year.
