Reporting and compensation - WasteTool

Improvement starts with insight. Verpact nationally registers the collection and recycling of packaging. This data provides insight into where improvements are possible in the chain. Municipalities and waste companies receive compensation based on this data for their contribution.

Reporting via WasteTool

Through the online registration system WasteTool, all municipalities and over 200 certified waste companies submit monthly reports on the amount of packaging waste they collect and recycle, broken down by material type. This is done based on agreements with the VNG, as laid down in the Implementation and Monitoring Protocol (UMP). WasteTool is designed to fully comply with these agreements. The collected data is processed annually by Verpact in the national monitoring report.

Compensation

The collection and recycling of household packaging waste is financed by the packaging industry. Using the data in WasteTool, we ensure that the correct payments are made. Once the reports are received, we verify their accuracy through checks. Meanwhile, the municipality receives a quarterly advance payment based on the monthly reports. After all data has been verified, the annual compensation is finalized.

Municipalities are only eligible for compensation if they cooperate with a waste company recognized by Verpact. Waste companies receive a registration fee for the reports they submit in WasteTool.
