EPR Commercial Waste
Afvalfonds Verpakkingen (‘Afvalfonds’) organises and finances the collection of packaging from households in the Netherlands (via the municipalities).
We do this on behalf of the companies that release packaged products on the market. With effect from 2023, the law is changing and Afvalfonds will also organise and pay for separate collection of drinks cartons and glass and plastic consumer packaging outside the home, such as drinks packets, plastic sweet wrappers, plastic bottles (without deposit), crisp and sweet bags, glass packaging, etc.
Until 18 May 2022, companies, offices, hospitals and schools have been able to notify their intention to have their plastic packaging, drinks cartons and glass packaging collected separately, from next year, at the expense of Afvalfonds, via the ‘Afval Goed Geregeld’ service site.
2,736 collection sites have been registered via Afvalgoedgeregeld.nl, the online counter of Afvalfonds. Approximately one third are schools and nursery schools. We are currently in talks with waste collectors to arrange a collection system for these materials separated at source from 1 January 2023. In addition, we are working on a system for subsequent separation of material from commercial residual waste.
