Which part of my packaging can be included in the calculation for the recycled content discount?
To qualify for the recycled content reward step, the percentage of recycled plastic must be calculated based on the plastic weight of the entire disposal unit.
Example:
For food-contact packaging, at least 10% recycled plastic must be present in the disposal unit to qualify for the reward step.
The packaging consists of one disposal unit with a total plastic weight of 20 grams (21 grams including the paper label), broken down as follows:
- A plastic bottle (main component) weighing 15 grams, with 1 gram (food-contact) recycled plastic
- A plastic cap (sub-component) weighing 5 grams, with 5 grams (food-contact) recycled plastic
- A paper label (sub-component) weighing 1 gram
Of the total 20 grams of plastic in the disposal unit, 6 grams consist of (food-contact) recycled plastic.
This means that the disposal unit contains 30% recycled plastic and may qualify for this reward step.
Note: The paper label is not included in the calculation, as the recycled content percentage is determined based on the plastic weight.
